On Saturday we celebrated National Tree Week by planting an orchard with the help of the Smile Project. Despite the dreadful forecast we were blessed with a rain-free day, and as such were able to plant the majority of our new orchard, as well as doing other wood-related activities. Thanks to the Tree Council, and our faithful supporters, we have been able to plant 24 fruit trees including many varieties of apples and pears that will provide food for all attending the project in years to come. Though the focus of the day was to plant the orchard and learn a bit about trees, we rounded off in the afternoon with some willow weaving and raft building resulting in lots of fun floating down the river on a raft throne!
